The Giving Back Mom
One thing that I have always been proud to do was to give back and volunteer my time. When I was young I went to the local Alzheimers Center and got the paperwork to volunteer there on my own in 6th grade! In high school I was always the Adopt A Family rep for my homeroom, volunteered in groups that worked with kids and seniors, marched in DC, and even took a trip to Appalachia to work an event to raise money for a battered women’s shelter. In college I was no different! My first role in my sorority was as the External Affairs officer that planned community service projects! I gathered sisters for Walks downtown and organized our Annual bowling event where we raised funds for our National charity. I always wanted to do more and I am always to this day trying to find ways to give back. At my old company I was the rep for our zone for Adopt A Family each holiday season and lent my hand to anything I could to help out.
Now it is much different! I have kids that are going into the world and I want them to be apart of the good in the world as well! I have been able to participate in different activities with my kids such as working at the local food pantry, volunteering at Matthew 25 with their classes, organizing a district wide coat drive (2 years in a row) donating over 600 plus coats to the local organization that helps local families!
Helping out in the schools, with special programs, events, and the arts are also ways that I am giving back! These too show my kids that I value what they are doing and it supports the schools.
