This was our second official “road trip” to achieve our goal of hitting all 50 states as a family! I made up different trips (using mapquest) that got us to the most states and attractions that we wanted to visit and gave the kids the option of which one to take each year. 2019 they chose to go north wanting to see all of the waterparks of the Dells. Here is our journey!
June 20, 2019 Milwaukee, WISCONSIN
We left our house for our next road trip! First stop was going to be Milwaukee, Wisconsin! I had traveled to Wisconsin for work but the kids had never been so it was fun to tackle yet another state on our list.
This was our first time staying in an Airbnb. It was a little different staying at someone’s upstairs. The owners lived downstairs. They were very nice and the place was very clean and what we needed. I definitely will use an Airbnb again for our family of 6.
We hit the town when we arrived for dinner and sites of the city.
June 21, 2019 Milwaukee, WISCONSIN
We went out to see some sites again of Milwaukee. We were buying time until the Reds vs Brewers game that night at Miller Stadium. We are a big Reds family so this was awesome to cheer on our home team at a different ballpark (another one of my goals is to visit all of the ballparks)! We visited Mitchell Park first.
Then we headed to Discovery World where the kids were able to do some hands on activities, see an aquarium, pet sting rays, and interact with some exhibits.
Then it was game time!
June 22,2019 The Dells, WISCONSIN
We hit the road after two nights in Milwaukee headed to The Dells. Still in Wisconsin but this is supposed to be the waterpark capital! There for sure were many waterparks here! We stayed at Mt. Olympus and our Airbnb which this time was a condo had wristbands that accompanied our stay. We swam at the Mt. Olympus waterpark both days. On the day it rained I think the boys got the most bang for their buck on the water slides. The rest of the town is touristy kind of like a Branson or a Gatlinburg I would say. In the evenings I had different plans for us!
The first night we went to a Magic show! The boys enjoyed it because 2 of them were called up on stage!
June 23, 2019 The Dells, WISCONSIN
Mt. Olympus had rides like an amusement park too that were non water rides. You would never guess since that day is rained all day! We were drenched and chilly all day but when you are on vacation that doesn’t matter!
In the evening the rain stopped, thank goodness!! We took a little trip on the town and went into Ripley’s Believe it Or Not, had ice cream, and EVERYONE gave mom a grand present! They all dressed and posed for Old Time pictures!!! I was ecstatic!!
June 24, 2019 MINNESOTA
On the road again! This time we were about to enter a new state for all of us! MINNESOTA! We spent two days at the Mall of America! Here is also home to Nickelodeon Universe! Rides galore! Day 1 we spent the whole day riding rides, meeting characters, and taking a walk around this giant mall! We had lunch at Wahlburgers which is somewhere that I had been wanting to eat after watching the show! Too bad Donnie or Mark wasn’t there.
June 25, 2019 MINNESOTA
We woke up and I wanted to see a little bit of Minnesota before heading back indoors for our lunch and movie. Toy Story 4 had just been released so we thought it would be awesome to watch it at where else but the Mall of America! First stop was Minnehaha Regional Park/Minnehaha Falls. It was a beautiful day!
We spent time in the other exhibits and games at the mall the rest of the day after we watched our movie. It was an early turn in for us for a change!
June 26, 2019 Fargo, NORTH DAKOTA
Off to the next state of NORTH DAKOTA! Fargo that is! Now, this was a little harder to build into our trip. I wanted to get North Dakota off of our list of places to go and I figured we were closest as we will ever be. Fargo was actually a nice town with everything we needed and we were able to visit their Red River Zoo. We did get to visit a brewery for dinner: Granite City Brewery.
June 27, 2019 Sioux Falls, SOUTH DAKOTA
We headed to a state that we had been the summer before but the whole other side. Our next stop was in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We visited Falls Park and the went to Sioux Falls Downtown Historic District to see all of the sculptures.
June 28, 2019 Des Moines, IOWA
We headed to another state that hadn’t been hit before, IOWA! We went to Des Moines, Iowa. We didn’t have big plans. I did want to eat at Zombie Café which was a recommendation from a friend. We walked around downtown and they were having an arts festival around the Sculpture Park. We walked around and looked at the art and the sculptures. I love the different murals on the sides of the buildings in this city! So beautiful and unique!
June 29, 2019
We headed back home! Road trip # 2 on the books with many firsts, stopped in 5 different states, and made a ton of memories. These are the days that I cherish! Can’t wait for the next!
